Imagine Tammy Wynette crossed with the Ventures and you’ll have an idea of the sonic world of Americana artist Stacy Antonel’s forthcoming EP. Always a genre-defying artist, Antonel blends her passion for classic country, jazz and surf rock with this collection of songs, and the result is a fresh hybrid of musical styles that feels both vintage and hyper-modern. Recorded at Nashville’s Fitting Room Studio, the band includes heavy hitters Ethan Ballinger (Miranda Lambert), Joe Reed (Merle Haggard), Paul Sgroi (Josh Hedley) and San Diego jazz phenom Tony Econom.

Antonel’s personal story is also a reflection of this combination of influences. Born and raised three blocks from the beach in San Diego, she fell in love with classic country music through a twist of fate: the dollar record bin at a thrift store. Soon after, she started a successful country cover band called Ginger Cowgirl, and in 2017 relocated to Nashville to pursue a career as a songwriter and recording artist. Her debut album Always the Outsider was critically praised, netting coverage in publications from Main Street Nashville to the Bluegrass Situation, and was hailed as a 2022 Essential Album by influential country music blog Saving Country Music.

PRESS QUOTES:

"The immediate wash of pedal steel guitar bathes you in twangy comfort as Antonel’s jazzy vocals soak up around you. What makes this song really capture your attention is that Antonel isn’t trying to sound like anyone else and this isn’t simply another attempt at making music of another era. Instead, she conjures up a classic sound that feels distinctly fresh and modern..."
- Glide Magazine, 2022

"...stunningly intricate, cosmically oriented Americana songs that oscillate seamlessly between classic country sounds and floating interstellar qualities. They’re carried by Antonel’s versatile and silvery vocal melodies, bold instrumental progressions, as well as plenty of serene and exploratory pedal steel."
-Main Street Nashville, 2022

"It is a singer-songwriter album at its core, but a remarkably creative and sophisticated one, both musically and lyrically. She navigates the Americana/country environs inhabited by Emmylou Harris, Allison Moorer and Lucinda Williams, and in doing so, proves she’s every bit their equal."
-Alan Cackett, 2022
